RADAR HILL
PACIFIC RIM NATIONAL PARK (Long Beach
section)
Radar Hill offers some of the
best marine and tree top views overlooking the Pacific Rim National
Park, Clayoquot Sound, Tofino Inlet and Meares Island. From
the top of the hill from different platform areas you can see
360 degrees.
Radar Hill is accessed via a paved road to a
large parking lot and then there is a short, wheel chair accessable
boardwalk walking trail. It Is only a 100 meter walk to the
view point over looking Clayoquot Sound and the bustling marine
traffic coming and going, in and out of the popular marine destination.
There is a west facing viewing platform on Radar
Hill with some interpretive signs (Kap'Yong Memorial) outlining
the area and the history of the 2nd battalion Princess patricia's
Canadian light Infantry during the korean War.
Further along the trail there is another viewing
platform facing east. Radar Hill is a popular destination to
see all of the Pac Rim area from an aerial perspective.
The hill was initially slated to be the location
of a radar installation during the Second World War. There is
still evidence of the foundation left on the hill. And no, it
is not named after Radar from the TV show Mash.
How to get to Radar Hill: Located
off the Pacific Rim Highway just south of Tofino, BC. Look for
the big road signs pointing to Radar Hill and the Kap'Yong Memorial.
Turn onto the road and follow it to the end. Park and play.
